In 1993, the U.S. Department of Defense adopted a “don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT) policy governing homosexual military members. Now nearly two decades later, the policy is scheduled for repeal (in September 2011) permanently eliminating the ban on gay men and lesbians serving openly in the US armed forces.
Reflecting on the 20-year period governed by DADT, this special issue of the Journal of Homosexuality will explore the history, culture, attitudes and impacts of the policy from its inception through its repeal.
Submissions are welcome from any discipline.
The proposal submission deadline is Monday, October 3, 2011.
Proposals will be reviewed and decisions returned by Tuesday, November 1, 2011. The final manuscript submission deadline is Monday, January 2, 2012. All submissions will follow the established protocols of the Journal of Homosexuality.
