The Directions West Conference invites submissions of papers, panels, and roundtables that address the many directions people have traveled--geographically, imaginatively, socially, creatively, intellectually, historically--to create the West.
We invite submissions that interrogate those journeys. How have various people mapped their ways into and through the North American Wests? How have we/they mapped this place? And how have these journeys and templates intersected in the meetings among First Nations and the women and men of diverse ethnicities and cultures who converged to shape the western social landscapes?
We hope to bring together people who, from diverse perspectives, can explore this scholarship and its development, and raise pressing questions to explore the most fruitful approaches to inform the future of western Canada and its borderlands. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary submissions are welcomed.
Please submit one-page proposals and a one-page vita for each presenter by September 15, 2011 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
