I am looking for 2-3 graduate students to join me in putting together a panel for the 2012 Society for Military History Annual Meeting, to be held May 10-13, 2012, in Arlington, VA.
I will be submitting a paper on the politics of recruitment in Puerto Rico during World War I. In this case, "politics" refers to the interplay between parties on the island, metropole-colonial relations, and the personal politics of Afro-Puerto Ricans and women. I am searching for others who study colonial recruitment in the twentieth-century, especially those who focus on the Caribbean and/or highlight overlapping political arenas.
The deadline for panel submissions is November 1st, so if you are interested, please contact me by October 1st, so that I have time to prepare submission materials. All presenters, chairs, and commentators must be SMH members at the time of the 2012 meeting.
