Looking for panelists for WAWH 2012 meeting, “Insights from a Hiring Committee: Succeeding in a Changing Academic Job Market”
Title: “Insights from a Hiring Committee: Succeeding in a Changing Academic Job Market”
I am looking for 2-3 other people to join me in putting together a panel for the 2012 Western Association of Women’s Historians Annual Meeting, to be held May 3-5, 2012, in Berkeley, CA at the Berkeley Marina.
I envision this as a panel designed specifically to help job applicants navigate the difficult seas of the changing academic job market. If you have recently chaired a hiring committee, are or have been the chair of a department, or perhaps have recently been through the hiring experience, please consider sharing your valuable insights with young scholars. I am planning on presenting on “How to Showcase Your Teaching in a Job Application.” Other possible topics:
•Understanding university bureaucracies and hiring timelines
•Making social media work for you, not against you
•Letters of recommendation: what hiring committees want to see
•Do’s and Don’ts while on the job market
•The campus visit, etc.
The deadline for panel submissions is September 15, so if you are interested please get back to me with your name, contact info, and a sentence or two about what you’d like to speak on no later than August 20. Thanks!
