Abstracts are invited for a panel, "Translating the Holocaust," to take place at the 2012 Northeast Modern Language Association Convention to be held March 15-18, 2012 in Rochester, New York, sponsored by St. John Fisher College. The deadline for abstracts is September 30, 2011.
Papers on literature, graphic novel, and film in all languages and from all theoretical approaches are welcome.
Translation, both literal and figurative, is a central topic in the study of the Holocaust. How is the multilingual nature of concentration camp life represented in these texts? How is translation a metaphor for the act of witnessing? In what ways do second-generation writers grapple with translation due to their linguistic remove from the first generation? Papers on these and other related topics in literature, graphic novels, and film are welcome. Please submit 300 to 500 word abstracts to Andrea Harris at email@example.com by September 30, 2011.
