In the name of the honour. The Commissioners for the Holy Office and for the Military Orders in Portugal, 1570-1773

We will be hosting an International Seminar entitled “In the name of the honour: agents and ministers (XVI-XVIIIth centuries)” at the University of Évora, on October 6-7, 2011. It will be composed of three sessions: 1) Ministers and officials of the Holy Office and the Military Orders; 2) Prosopography and networks; 3) Background investigations (habilitações/ “pruebas”) and the clearance of the honour.
We invite proposals for the second session. They may focus on theoretical aspects or on specific methodological applications in the field of History. The scope of analysis may include collections of personal sketches or social networks related the Iberian Inquisitions, Portuguese and Spanish Military Orders and any other institutions conducting background investigations (“habilitações”).
Three papers will be selected.
All proposals shall be sent with an abstract of max. 3000 characters and a CV, addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org
Official languages: Portuguese, Spanish, French and English.
