Critical essays are being sought to complement the creative works in an edited anthology entitled Between Worlds to be published by Peter Lang. The anthology is a scholarly project that will include both fictional pieces by creative writers and three or four critical essays by scholars on the themes of home, globalization, diaspora, migration, immigration, displacement, freedom, and belonging. The editors have secured permission rights to include excerpts from fictional work by the following ten creative writers: Chimanda Ngozi Adichie (“Ghosts”), Ana Castillo (The Guardians), Michelle Cliff (No Telephone to Heaven), Edwidge Danticat (The Farming of Bones), Rikki Ducornet (Phosphor in Dreamland), Rebecca Brown (The Haunted House), Louise Erdrich (Last Report at Little Horse), Ha Jin (A Good Fall), Maxine Hong Kingston (China Men), and Helena Maria Viramontes (Under the Feet of Jesus).
The anthology offers experienced scholars the opportunity to focus on a specific grouping of authors, and explore one or more of the following themes while tying the fiction excerpts into Between World’s exploration of literary and cultural spaces, cultural identity, and politics of difference:
• Spatial matters (i.e. the paradoxes of freedom and belonging, meditations on home (globalization, migration, displacement)
• Temporal considerations (i.e. histories and memory, witness)
• Multiplicity, Hybridity, Heterogeneity
The writers have been tentatively grouped as follows:
• Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Michelle Cliff, and Edwidge Danticat
• Ana Castillo, Helena Maria Viramontes, and Louise Erdrich
• Maxine Hong Kingston and Ha Jin
