Call for Presentations
THE 14th BIENNIAL MAPLE LEAF AND EAGLE CONFERENCE ON NORTH AMERICAN STUDIES
North America as West/ the West of North America
University of Helsinki, May 8-11, 2012.
North America can be defined in many ways. The 14th Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference seeks to explore the definition of North America as West, and of the West as a defining feature of North America. The Conference Organization Committee calls for presentation proposals from all academic disciplines dealing with the subject of “North America as West/ the West of North America”.
Abstracts are welcome on topics ranging from cowboys and Indians to Obama and Osama, from Atlantic alliance to Continental Divide, from Vinland to Vineland. The North American ‘West’ as concept, place, politics, ecology…
The deadline for the proposals is September 30, 2011. Please send your proposals and a short bio via email to Conference Director Jonathan Lagerquist: jonathan.lagerquist(at)helsinki.fi.
A proposal should not be longer than one page, and the same applies to the bio. The proposals and bios can be sent as a regular email or as an attachment. Please use a regular file format (doc, .docx, .pdf).
The Conference registration fee is 100 € and 50 € for students
