The idea of organizing an international symposium on Midyat stems from the need to interpret the long and influential cultural and religious history of Midyat. The Symposium aims to bring together academicians from different disciplines from across the world and encourage making novel studies on Midyat.
In this symposium, it is planned to reinterpret the past and present of Midyat, which has been a place of experience of living together of different ethnics and religions, in terms of sociological, cultural, religious, political and economical aspects. The reason why we make this symposium international is that an international symposium provides us with a better understanding and remembering of Midyat’s contribution to the world culture and human heritage .
Midyat Governership, Mardin Artuklu University, Midyat Municipality, DİKA (Tigris Development Agency) and Kadim Akademi Association will hold the “Keşfi- Kadim: From Matiate To Midyat: The International Symposium on Midyat” between October 7th-9th, 2011 in Midyat, Mardin, Turkey.
