This panel, entitled "Hazards, Risk and Disasters in the Gulf South," examines natural/man-made hazards and disasters in the Gulf South from an historical perspective, employing and addressing environmental, engineering and risk management concepts, methods and issues. Panelists may look at specific hazards over time periods, in specific locations, and analyze their historical context and significance. Events such as hurricane Katrina or BP's 2005 refinery explosion or the recent well explosion and oil spill are particularly relevant. Paper are also welcomed that are broad in conception and/or scope, and approach risks and hazards from an interdisciplinary perspective.
