|
The Treasury Historical Association will present the lecture, “Dancing the Legal Tender Polka,” which discusses the turbulent economic period during the Civil War through the eyes of the American public. It examines the public’s reaction to the new Greenbacks, “war” bonds, and other economic changes. The newspapers, cartoons, and music of the time reveal different aspects of public opinion, ranging from patriotism to hostility, as common citizens attempted to cope with social and political chaos.
