Call for contributions to a session entitled, ”Gender and the ‘Sciences of the State’” for the European Social Science History Conference (Glasgow, 11-14 April 2012)
The “sciences of the state” is a category from German history, which traditionally encompassed knowledges now associated with disciplines such as economics, political science, law, and agronomy. In our session, we would like to open up this category in order to think broadly about what might comprise “sciences of the state” and how they are constituted by and constitutive of gendered orderings of state and society. We are historians of modern Germany, and the specification is that a maximum of two papers in a 4-paper session may focus on one country, so we are seeking submissions from scholars (across the disciplines) related to contexts other than the German lands.
