IALJS at the AEJMC Annual Conference, Saturday 13 August 2011.
Participants who might be interested in taking part in the
International Association for Literary Journalism Studies (IALJS)
panel described below are invited to contact the panel organizer with
a preliminary title and a brief abstract of their presentation no
later than 30 April 2011. Interest from graduate students is
particularly encouraged.
Description of Panel: One of the constants in the practice and study
of literary journalism is the privileged place of "story." Whatever
other qualities are open to argument, it is largely agreed that the
centrality of narrative is almost always paramount in the genre. The
hope of the proposed roundtable panel discussion is that the
participants will address, from a variety of political perspectives
and sociocultural approaches, the interrelationship between the
stories literary journalists choose (and have historically chosen) to
tell and the journalism's role in creating a context for a culturally
vibrant and/or politically informed citizenship.
