Paul-André Bempéchat, Affiliate at Harvard's Center for European Studies, will be teaching a three-week, interdisciplinary graduate seminar entitled "Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn and Their Worlds" at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, in Princeton, this summer. The seminar begins July 25th and ends August 12th. The history of the Mendelssohn family from Moses Mendelssohn to the present will be examined, illumined by the recent decade's research. The restoration of Felix's stature as one of music history's greats, and the affirmation of Fanny's stature as the
greatest woman composer of the nineteenth century are the central foci of the seminar; their major and lesser-known but equally great works will be studied musically and historically. Interested scholars and musicians should feel free to contact the instructor at pabempecfas.harvard.edu.
