Reminder: CALL FOR PAPERS
Animated Realities: Animation, Documentary and the Moving Image
Thursday June 23rd and Friday June 24th, 2011
University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh College of Art and the Edinburgh International Film Festival
Keynote Speakers: Sheila Sofian (University of Southern California), Paul Ward (Arts University College, Bournemouth), Paul Wells (Loughborough University)
Held on June 23rd and 24th 2011, Animated Realities comprises a two-day academic conference hosted jointly by the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art, and a concurrent screening programme of new animated documentary work as part of the 65th Edinburgh International Film Festival. On screen and in discussion, the myriad potential uses of animation as a documentary tool in contemporary fine art, film and many other fields will come into sharper focus. We hope to create a truly interdisciplinary event and a new platform for ideas about an important and ever-expanding area of contemporary visual culture.
Potential contributors are invited to submit a 300-word paper abstract (500 words for themed panels) accompanied by a brief biography (including name, institution, phone number and e-mail) to the conference organisers, Jonathan Murray (jonny.murray@eca.ac.uk) and Nea Ehrlich (N.Ehrlich@sms.ed.ac.uk ) no later than April 10th 2011.
