In the conference, we want to explore the complex relationship between religion, politics, development policies, and humanitarian aid. Beside a genral look into the way humanitarian aid and missionary activities are related we put a specific focus on the way FBO's are engaged in the field of displacement. We want to examine the human rights discourse of FBO's and how they create new collective identities and reshape power relations within refugee communities by drawing on case studies from East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South Africa, Sub-Saharian Africa.
