Translations 2011: Cross-Cultural Awareness through Poetry
Bate College, Lewiston, Maine
International Conference: October 27 – 29, 2011
International Poetry Festival: October 25 – 29, 2011
Deadline for proposals: May 1, 2011
The language departments at Bates College invite proposals for a scholarly conference to be held in conjunction with the second annual Bates International Poetry Festival, Translations 2011: Cross-Cultural Awareness through Poetry. The festival highlights the role of poetry in different cultures and the role of translation in mediating, negotiating, and communicating between cultures. We are seeking contributions that consider poetry’s potential, as well as limits, in cross-cultural exchanges. The papers can address any languages and historical periods. The language of the conference will be English.
We plan to publish a volume of selected papers.
Please send abstracts of 250 words by May 1, 2011 to rcernaho@bates.edu.
