SUBJECT: Looking for a Third Panelist for the 2012 LASA (May 23-26, 2012, San Francisco, CA)
Two panelists are currently looking for a final presenter for a panel
proposal titled "Criminals for the State and Mobilization of the State against Pirates”.
This panel will focus on the different way in which early modern States acted and responded to the pirates’ activity growth during Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries: legally, politically and militarily.
The first paper will discuss the problems of piracy and legislating piracy in seventeenth-century Jamaica. The second paper will examine the complex relations among colonial administrators, informal groups and metropolitan interventions. We are still looking for the chairman.
If you are interested in presenting please send a brief CV and a
one-paragraph proposal to Giovanni Venegoni (giovanni.venegoni2@unibo.it) or Amanda Snyder (asnyd002@fiu.edu) by March 28.
Sincerely,
Giovanni Venegoni
