This interdisciplinary conference has a broad chronology ranging from the Renaissance back to Antiquity and focuses on the theme of “Performance,” which relates to a number of fields of interest, from theatrical performance, to performance of gender to performance at court. Although the WRPS planning committee strongly encourages paper proposals related to this theme, we welcome any proposals focusing on pre-modern topics in general.
• Send one-page abstracts for individual papers or
proposals to wrpspapers@gmail.com by May 15, 2011.
• Abstracts for individual papers or porposals should
include the presenter’s name, mailing address, institutional
affiliation, phone number, and email address.
• Individual presenters will have 20 minutes of a
session period to read their papers.
• Proposals for panels or roundtables must identify
a designated panel chair and include one-paragraph
abstracts for each presenter. Panels are one hour in length.
The Wheeling Regional Pre-modern Symposium is an innovative fusion of academic and popular interest in the pre-modern period. We promote engagement with the material culture, history, literature, and art of the Middle Ages and
Renaissance across geographic, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries. In addition to traditional scholarly panels and
presentations, the symposium and fair will include events such as combat in period armor, workshops in period arts and crafts, and a medieval feast.
