The Indigenous Studies area of the Midwest Popular Culture Association seeks panel and paper proposals for the annual Midwest Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association conference, this year to be held at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Friday-Sunday, October 14-16, 2011.
The area seeks papers that address any aspect of Indigenous, Aboriginal, and First Nations popular culture. The area highly encourages comparative papers between Indigenous and, say, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, or African popular cultures. Topics might address, but are not in any way limited to the following:
Film
Television
New Media
Literature
Comic books
Radio shows
Cartoon
Folklore
Theater, Festivals, Spectacles, and Ceremonies
Music
Visual art
Gaming
Blogging
Advertising
Indigeneity and Aboriginality
Ethnicity and Nationhood
Gender and Sexuality
Violence
Diaspora and Transnationality
Comparative studies
250 word abstracts may be submitted before or by 30 APRIL 2011 via email. Kindly include the following with your submission: your name and affiliation, e-mail address, postal address, and phone number. Also, please indicate in your submission whether your presentation will require a TV and DVD player. Note that LCD projectors will not be provided by MPCA/ACA. Abstracts may be sent as Word, RTF, or PDF attachments, or in the body of the email.
