The Irish in the U.S. Civil War: Glas, Gorm's Liath (or Green, Blue & Grey)
This lecture will focus on the beginnings of the Civil War and the role of the Irish immigrants. Learn about the involvement of Irish men and women in America's Civil War, culturally, socially, politically: in both the Confederate and Union Armies; focused primarily on the lead up to Ft. Sumter. Field nurses, hospital workers, caregiver of orphans and more, including the numbers, units, casualties, uniforms, flags, slogans, songs, language, battles.
Professor, poet, actor, storyteller, dancer & performer are just a few of the words to describe Micheal O’Maille, the presenter, an infectiously delightful native Irish speaker, born and raised in Connemara, County Galway.
