The Hadassah-Brandeis Institute at Brandeis University continues to accept applications for our Spring 2012 Seminar Series on the topic of Jewish Women and the Arts.
Questions of inquiry could include, but are not limited to:
1) To what extent have Biblical and other sacred texts had an impact on the content of Jewish women's art?
2) To what extent have Jewish women artists developed distinctive styles and themes that differentiate their work from those of other traditions and from Jewish men?
3) What are the cutting edge, innovative issues in Jewish women's art?
4) How does Jewish women's art vary around the world?
Areas of artistic activity include examinations of plastic arts such as painting, ceramics, video, sculpture, architecture and more; as well as performing arts such as theater, dance and music.
Scholars accepted to the HBI Seminar Series will receive a stipend and office space, and will participate in bi-monthly group discussions and a concluding public round-table. Shulamit Reinharz, the HBI Founding Director, will Chair the program.
