Throughout the 20th century, the constantly changing characteristics of warfare have driven Canada’s Army to learn, anticipate, innovate, and adapt. This never-ending quest for a defined purpose and preferred modus operandi in an ever-changing future security environment has presented numerous challenges, each one requiring new ideas, concepts, and wide variety of possible solutions.
Hosted by the Canadian Army’s Directorate of Land Concepts and Designs, this workshop will explore how ideas, thought, debate, innovation, and design have affected the development of the Canadian Army’s concepts, doctrines, developments, force structures, and application in the past, present, and future.
Submissions: Presenters are invited to explore any aspect of the Canadian Army’s evolution. Submissions are strongly encouraged in the subjects of army innovation and military problem solving; military thinkers, thought, and debate; science and technology; past future security analyses; army operational research and experimentation; army concepts; doctrinal development and evolution; force designs and structures; army programs, projects, and procurement; and lessons learned. The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2011.
Submissions are welcome from established practitioners, scholars, and advanced graduate students, and should consist of a 1-page paper title and abstract as well as a short 250-word CV/resume. Successful applicants will be eligible for travel assistance and expenses provided a completed research paper is presented at the time of the conference for a subsequent proceedings publication. For more information: Questions may be directed to the workshop chairman, Major Andrew B.
