FROM CAIRO TO TEHRAN:
Historical Ties and Contemporary Connections between Egypt & Iran
From the rise of Islam to the current turmoil in the Middle East, Egypt and Iran have long shared intellectual and cultural traditions. This volume seeks to explore these historical linkages by soliciting articles on a range of issues spanning a broad chronology from the medieval period to the modern era:
Minority Rights and Politics
Role of Military Elites in Society
Sunni/Shii relations
Unveiling/Veiling and Womens Issues
Secularism during the Interwar Era
Impact of Regional Commerce and Trade
Epidemics and Disease Management
Rise of Pan-Islamism and the Afghani-Abduh Connection
Nationalism and Decolonization in the Musaddiq/Nasser Era
Muslim Brotherhood and Khomeinism
Social Networking and Political Protests
Deconstructing the Arab/Ajam dichotomy
Relations with the United States (Iranophobia/Islamophobia)
Articles should be no longer than 8,000 words in length including notes. We request that interested scholars submit an abstract no later than JUNE 1, 2011 to the following email account: Egypt.Iran.Volume@gmail.com. Essays selected for inclusion in this volume should be completed no later than DECEMBER 1, 2011.
