Announcing that Volume 4 of the bilingual ejournal "Chinese Southern Diaspora Studies" is now freely available online at http://csds.anu.edu.au/volume_4_2010/. It features a selection of revised and refereed historical and linguistics papers from a 2010 ANU workshop entitled "Vietnam, China, and Chinese in Vietnam". Contributors in the English language section include David G. Marr, John K. Whitmore, Claudine Salmon, Thomas Engelbert, Shiu Wentang, John D. Phan, Michael Churchman, and Nola Cooke. Articles range from a reassessment of the "Chinese millennium" in ancient Vietnam to the colonial and immediate post-colonial era, with most analyses based on new material or hitherto little known or under-used archival sources.
