The Program Committee invites proposals for the 2011 Pennsylvania Historical Association Annual Meeting hosted by the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in Johnstown PA, October 13-15, 2011.
In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, the theme of the 2011 PHA conference is "Pennsylvania at War.” The Program Committee is particularly interested in panel discussions that examine the wartime experience of Pennsylvania, its citizens, and its institutions, at home, on the battlefield, and beyond, during any period of conflict in Pennsylvania history from the colonial era through the present-day.
While Pennsylvania at War is the organizing theme of the meeting, submission of papers and panels on other topics of Pennsylvania and mid-Atlantic history are equally welcome and encouraged. There is no requirement that paper or panel topics be limited to war.
Full session proposals are encouraged, although individual paper proposals are also welcome as are proposals from undergraduate and graduate students for a poster session. Proposals should identify session chairs and participants and provide brief professional biographical information. Individuals willing to chair or comment on panel sessions should forward their names and interests directly to Dr. Daniel Barr, the program committee chair. Note: All participants must be members of the association at the time of the meeting.
Proposals must be submitted electronically by March 21, 2011 at https://sites.google.com/site/pha2011meeting/.
Inquiries should be directed to:
