Catalan Studies Discussion Group; MLA 2012 (5-8 January), Seattle, Washington.
The year 2011 marks the one-hundredth anniversary of the death of Joan Maragall, Catalan essayist, poet, journalist, translator, and public figure. At the conclusion of a year of commemorations, this session invites examinations of Maragall's work, of the context or involvement of his writing and other activities in contemporary issues in Barcelona, in Spain, and in Europe (i.e. Modernisme, modernization, the Renaixença, urbanization, 'Regeneracionismo', etc.), or of Maragall's relevance today. All proposals should be of approximately 200 words, and a include a title. Send via e-mail to Paula Sprague (paula.sprague@trincoll.edu) no later than March 10, 2011.
