The year 2011 marks the one-hundredth anniversary of the death of Joan Maragall, Catalan essayist, poet, journalist, translator, and public figure. At the conclusion of a year of commemorations, this session invites examinations of Maragall's work, of the context or involvement of his writing and other activities in contemporary issues in Barcelona, in Spain, and in Europe (i.e. Modernisme, modernization, the Renaixença, urbanization, 'Regeneracionismo', etc.), or of Maragall's relevance today.
