Preserving the world’s historic heritage is a responsibility that must be taken seriously by our increasingly interconnected global society. It is not just the responsibility of the country where particular historic sites are located. The biggest threat occurs in developing countries where historic sites are often sacrificed for temporary economic gain. One of the almost unknown archeological sites, the long Anastasian Wall in the Thrace (Trakya) region of Turkey is being looted by treasure hunters, suffering continued degradation due to commercial agricultural and mining practices and is facing encroaching suburban development as Istanbul sprawls outward, further endangering not only the wall, but other related sites and the unique environmental and cultural aspects of the area. To protect this archeological and architectural monument, a small group of scientists and interested citizens have started the Anastasian Wall Research Group, with a web presence at:

We welcome others who would like to
participate in our efforts.
