Join us for the 15th Annual ASU Writers Conference in Honor of Elmer Kelton, featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novelist and author, Art Spiegelman, whose Maus I: A Survivor’s Tale recounts his parents’ experiences as survivors of the Holocaust.
The Conference is free and open to the public; no registration is required.
This year’s Conference has been developed and planned to appeal to multiple disciplines--so, please encourage all of your students and colleagues in other departments to attend this very special event.
On Thursday at 5PM, Spiegelman will give a lecture with images titled, “What the %@&*! Happened to Comics?.” On Friday morning at 9AM, Dr. Laurence Musgrove will interview Art Spiegelman.
The two-day event will include concurrent sessions during which 60+ writers will present their nonfiction, fiction, poetry, artwork, creative nonfiction, and critical papers on Spiegelman’s and Elmer Kelton’s works. Notable presenters include the 2010 Texas Poet Laureate, Karla Morton, 2011 Kelton Contest winner Albert Haley, and 4 area high school students who have won the 2011 Teen Kelton Contest for their works of graphic short fiction.
