IIT Chicago-Kent Lambdas First annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Civil Rights Conference. Activist Art Johnston, owner of Sidetrack and a co-founder of Equality Illinois, will deliver the keynote address at the conference’s opening reception at 6 p.m. on March 4 at the Michael Lew Gallery, 415 S. Sangamon St. in Chicago. On March 5, conferees will attend a full-day of seminars at IIT Chicago-Kent related to LGBT issues. Topics include “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” “Litigating an LGBT Civil Rights Case in Illinois,” “Elder Law and the LGBT Community,” and “Transgender Rights.” Speakers will discuss the similarities between same-sex marriage bans and interracial marriage bans, criminalization of LGBT persons in the U.S., and politics and LGBT rights. An exhibit showcasing work by local LGBT artists will be displayed. There is no cost to attend the conference, but space is limited and registration is required. CLE credit may be available.
