RELIGION(S), MEN, AND MASCULINIT(Y)IES IN CANADA
Edited by Siphiwe I. Dube
The editor is soliciting essay submissions of original research to be included in "Religion(s), Men, and Masculinit(y)ies in Canada." The anthology is a collection that focuses on the historical intersection of religions and masculinit(y)ies in Canada, as well as the multiple socio-historical themes surrounding men and religions within the Canadian context of multiculturalism. The collection will be the first of its kind in Canada to explore the interrelated aspects of masculinit(y)ies and religion(s), and offering a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary dialogue amongst varied disciplines such as Anthropology, Canadian Studies, Critical Men’s Studies, Critical Race Studies, Cultural Studies, History, Religious Studies, and Sexuality Studies to name a few.
Foregrounding men and masculinit(y)ies in the study of gender and religion will yield new ways of understanding the intersection of gender and religions within Canada, especially beyond the often studied period of up to the 1960s. The collection allows for a timely reconsideration of the conceptualisation of men as both gendered and religious subjects in Canada within the recent explosion of both studies on men and religious diversity in Quebec for the former and the rest of Canada for the latter. The intention is to steer current thinking about masculinit(y)ies and religion(s) beyond conceptualising unquestioned power status and hegemony to include current feminist inspired scholarship on the relational processes and practices of religious men and their embodiment of masculinit(y)ies. The volume aims to reflect current and innovative thought on the interplay of men, masculinit(y)ies, and religion(s) in Canada.
