2011 is the 5th Anniversary Celebration for the Office of Service-Learning, Lingnan University. We are excited to announce the 3rd Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Service-Learning, which will be organized by the Office of Service-Learning, Lingnan University, on 7th-11th June 2011 (Tuesday to Saturday) in Hong Kong. The theme for the upcoming conference is “Make a Difference: Impacts of Service-Learning--Tender Moment, Touched Heart and Inspired Action”.
Different people have different intentions and methods for learning and serving, but we are united by community engagement’s seminal experiences: sharing tender moments during service-learning, having our hearts touched by these moments and taking action with renewed inspiration and knowledge. In this conference, we focus on learning outcomes, reflections, research, best practices and other aspects of tender moments, touched hearts and taking action via service-learning.
We are honored to have Ms. Thelma Kay, who is the former Director of the Social Development Division, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) based in Bangkok, to be our keynote speaker and share ‘The role of University students in Higher Education’ with us. Other than that, we also have two Symposiums organized by United Board and Lingnan Foundations respectively, focus on Environmental issue and Cross-Cultural Learning in Service-Learning.
Moreover, in order to better prepare participants for the conference, we are happy to cooperate with one of our important partners, Crossroads Foundation, for pre-conference workshop on 8th June 2011.
We invite proposals that echo the conference theme around the world. Conference presenters will have a variety of formats from which to choose; the Conference committee will make the final decisions on which format best suits each proposed presentation. The possible presentation formats are: Paper Presentation, Panel Presentation, Poster Presentation and Interactive Workshop. Interested scholars are invited to submit paper abstracts to the Conference Secretariat on or before 28th February 2011. The full manuscripts for accepted papers must be submitted by 15th May 2011. Selected papers from the Conference may be considered for special issue publication in the supporting education journal NEW HORIZONS IN EDUCATION.
