The Languages at War Conference will take place at the Imperial War Museum, London, 7-9 April 2011. Keynote speakers include Professor Joanna Bourke, Professor Mona Baker, and representatives from the British Council and the Ministry of Defence. The conference marks the third year of an AHRC-funded project involving the Universities of Reading and Southampton and the Imperial War Museum.
There will be panels on: Languages in conflict resolution, Languages and the military: fighting together; Languages and occupation; POWs and displaced people; Representations; Interpreting.
The conference will begin on 7th April with a discussion on Art and War around Jeremy Deller's 'Baghdad Car' installation, and there will be a Conference Special Event in the Churchill Museum/War Cabinet Rooms on 8th April.
