The Center for the Study of the Civil War Era in partnership with Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park - National Park Service will host the Eighth Annual Symposium on New Interpretations of the Civil War. Presenting scholars include: Thomas Costa of University of Virginia-Wise, O. Vernon Burton of University of Illinois, Emory M. Thomas Regents Professor Emeritus of History, University of Georgia, Robert A. Pratt of University of Georgia, and Judy Richardson - Filmmaker and Series Associate Producer of PBS' Eyes on the Prize.
Opening Reception will feature world Renown Georgia Spiritual Ensemble at Old Zion Baptist Church in Historic Marietta, Georgia
The presentations will cover an array of topics including the geography of slavery, President Abraham Lincoln's evolution on slavery, the formation of the Confederacy, Jim Crow and segregation, and the Civil Rights movement.
