Sponsored and hosted by the centre for Oriental Studies of Vilnius University, 'The Body in the Cinemas of South Asia' is designed to promote dialogue between scholars based in Western European countries, Asia and the US, and scholars from Eastern Europe.
We are particularly, though not exclusively, interested in papers focusing on popular South Asian cinemas and on discussions of what ‘exploitation cinema’ is or might be in those industrial contexts.
The call for papers, available at http://www.oc.vu.lt/en/conferences.html, lists topics around which interested scholars, film-makers and cinema professionals may give their presentations. The list is intended as a guide; we welcome proposals on related topics.
The conference will take place on 30 June - 2 July 2011. Proposals of no more than 400 words can be emailed to v.vitali@uel.ac.uk and deimantasval@gmail.com by 15 April 2011. There is no registration fee.
