3rd Annual Boston University Graduate Student American Political History Conference
Beyond the Ballot:
Reconsidering Politics in American History
April 1-2, 2011
Keynote Speaker: Joseph Crespino
The Boston University American Political History Institute welcomes submissions for the third annual graduate student political history conference to take place Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2, 2011. For this year’s conference, we seek to rethink the static “red vs. blue” perspective by reinterpreting the meaning of “political” through new methodologies and approaches. We welcome papers that investigate the relationship between cultural forms and domestic or international politics, political economy, elections and their impact on institutions, or how local politics highlight tensions that complicate traditional political narratives.
We ask panelists to examine how economics, religion, entertainment, sexuality, gender, morality, environment, race or ethnicity have influenced political issues, politicians or the electorate over the course of American history. Individual paper proposals should be submitted in the form of 300-500 word abstracts by Friday, December 31, 2010.
