We are delighted to announce that registration is now open for 'Rational Recreation?: Histories of Travel, Tourism and Leisure', which will take place at the University of Manchester on the 1st February 2011. This one-day conference features twenty papers from postgraduate and early-career researchers on all aspects of travel, tourism and leisure history. Topics include leisure and national identity, rational recreation, sporting spectacles and tourist images and icons. Our keynote speaker is Professor Dave Russell, who recently retired as Professor of History and Northern Studies at Leeds Metropolitan University. Professor Russell's publications include 'Popular Music in England 1840-1914: A Social History' (1987), 'Football and the English' (1997) and 'Looking North: Northern England and the National Imagination' (2004).
Registration is £5 for postgraduate students and £10 for all other attendees and includes all refreshments, lunch and a wine reception.
