Winter/Spring 2011 ONLINE Offerings in Innovative Technologies

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, in partnership with PODetc (Professional Online Development from the Educational Technology Community), is pleased to offer the following Winter/Spring 2011 ONLINE graduate courses in innovative technologies!
These courses focus on instructional technology integration in the classroom and are designed to help educators meet specific International Society of Technology Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for Educators, Administrators, and Students; the Wisconsin PI 34 Teacher Standards; and the Partnership for 21st Century Learning Skills.
These courses are geared towards K-12 educators, administrators, and technical and community college instructors. All courses are available for graduate credit or may be taken as a noncredit participant.
Teaching and Learning in Online Environments, 2 or 3 graduate credits (#0767CC or #0767CCC)
This online course is designed to satisfy the educational requirements for teaching online - "Beginning July 1, 2010, no person may teach an online course in a public school, including a charter school, unless he or she has completed at least 30 hours of professional development designed to prepare a teacher for online teaching" [Wisconsin State Statute 118.19(13)]. This online course will provide you with experience as an online learner and the skills necessary to meet the NACOL National Standards for Quality Online Teaching. You will examine and experience differences in an online environment as compared to a face-to-face classroom. Emphasis will be placed on how to establish, encourage, and maintain communication and discourse as a critical component of online learning. Ethical, practical, philosophical, temporal, and organizational considerations to facilitating learning online will be addressed as you plan and create your own online course! One book is required for this course. Please see the Required Reading listed on the course syllabus. You are responsible for obtaining this book prior to the start of class. This course is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. Please wait to order your book until you are contacted with your course login information.
Schedule: This online course begins February 7, 2011. The two-credit course is eight weeks and ends on April 1st. The three-credit course is ten weeks and ends on April 15, 2011.

Technology Literacy 103: Utilizing Social-Networking Support Tools in a Leadership Capacity, 1 graduate credit (#0758C)
Learn how to create asynchronous technical support for others in your organization through the use of social networking and Web 2.0 tools! Through peer-to-peer engagement with others in this online course, you will create learning resources for colleagues in your own organization!

Focus on STEM: Instructional Technology Strategies for Science and Math, 1 graduate credit (#0759C)
Unleash the power of instructional technology tools to meet the demands of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiative! With a primary focus on utilizing online tools to facilitate the instruction of science and math, this online course will assist you with creating and evaluating a final unit project that integrates STEM with critical thinking, evaluation, and creation of new knowledge for your students!

Develop leadership skills to define, promote, and foster the development of digital citizenship! You will discover technological tools to engage students in collaboration and communication, develop your own collaborative and communication skills, and establish personal and professional guidelines for the ethical use of online and collaborative tools. Learn strategies for engaging learners, fostering digital citizenship, and promoting an interest in lifelong learning!

Begin your journey of learning via this online course and learn how to survey and evaluate various Web 2.0 applications for use in your classroom! Through exploration and investigation, you will become more in-tune to the innovations in technology and how they relate to the K-12 education field. You will examine the latest educational technologies, learn ways to effectively incorporate new technologies into your curriculum, and develop skills to become a leader of technology use in your own organization! Research and Information Fluency: Foundations in Using Digital Tools for Student Projects, 1 graduate credit (#0760C)
Develop your skills for teaching students to find relevant information among the abundance of raw data found online, evaluate its worth and credibility, and effectively identify plagiarism and copyrighted material. You will learn "information fluency skills" (how to develop your own research and evaluation skills) as well as how to transfer this knowledge to the students in your classroom!
