The past twenty years saw a burst of scholarship on the role of gender in religion, including Margaret Lambert Bendroth’s Fundamentalism and Gender: 1875-Present, Brenda Brasher’s Godly Women: Fundamentalism and Female Power, Sally Gallagher’s Evangelical Identity and Gendered Family Life, R. Marie Griffith’s God’s Daughters: Evangelical Women and the Power of Submission, and Julie Ingersoll’s Evangelical Christian Women: War Stories in the Gender Battles, as well as significant scholarship on the Promise Keepers. Presenters are sought for a panel that will update and expand this scholarship for the upcoming American Studies Association Annual Meeting, to be held in Baltimore, Maryland, October 20-23, 2011. Submissions are encouraged to address the conference theme “"Imagination, Reparation and Transformation." Topics both historical and contemporary are welcome, and contributions on non-Christian traditions are encouraged. Potential presenters should send an abstract of no more than 250 words; a one-page CV; and details about needed audio-visual support to rebeccabfox@ku.edu by January 10, 2011.
