announces the International conference
“Ecclesiastical History today: recent paradigms and new approaches”
The conference will be hosted by Lomonossov Moscow State University on 10-11 November 2011. The conference will foster a dialog between scholars from different countries representing diverse disciplines and approaches in order to encourage new contacts and reveal new perspectives in the study of Church history.
We invite papers concerned with every aspect of the history of Western and Eastern Churches from the early years of Christianity until the present day, as well as with the history of the Church(es) in Russia, Christian archaeology and Christian art. The main topics we are planning to address are:
- The history of the Universal Church or the variety of Churches: the general and the particular in the Ecclesiastical history;
- New approaches to Ecclesiastical history: from the history of hierarchy to the history of institutions;
- New sources for the study of Church history;
- The role of Canon Law studies in the research into the field of Church history;
- Continuity and change in the reality and ideas of the Church;
- Scriptures, hagiography and iconography;
- Christian monuments: new discoveries and new interpretations.
Two plenary sessions and five parallel sessions will be organized, their topics defined in accordance with the proposals received. Papers for plenary sessions should be of no more than 30 minutes, papers for parallel sessions should be of 15 minutes.
Abstracts of up to 1000 symbols should be submitted to ekklesia@hist.msu.ru by 1 March 2011. The final decision of the organizing committee will be announced by 15 March 2011. Summaries (of no more then 8000 symbols) of the papers selected will be published in the conference volume. The deadline for the submission of summaries is 1 May 2011.
There is no conference fee.
An opportunity to book budget accommodation in the university hall may be provided for the conference participants (single room at $40 per night). An excursion and other cultural events will be organized for the delegates.
