Contributors requested for a project to publish an edited collection of primary documents illustrating "American exceptionalism" through the early 20th century. The project seeks to identify sources - pamphlets, newspaper/magazine articles, letters, sermons, literary or cultural productions - and briefly interpret their relationship to American exceptionalism's historical development. The project seeks to map this concept in terms of its origins or construction, assumptions, reinterpretation over time, and also anti-exceptionalist criticism.
