Nation´s Memory Institute organizes an international scientific conference “Southern Slovakia after the I. Vienna Award 1938 – 1945” that will take place on 22 – 23 March, 2011 in Šurany. Our aim is to provide ground for presentation of research results of historians and disclose the research results to general public as not sufficient attention was paid to the topic until now. The goal of the conference is to describe the period of occupation of Southern Slovakia that strongly affected lives of all inhabitants of Southern Slovakia, no matter of their national, racial, social or religious affiliation.
The conference would deal with these topics:
I. Vienna Award – political and international aspects
Political life, military and civil administration at the Southern Slovakia after the I. Vienna Award
Repressive action of security forces
Persecutions of individuals and groups of inhabitants for national, racial and political reasons
Economical and social impact of I. Vienna Award and its effect on the lives of inhabitants
Church, schools and culture
Everyday´s life of inhabitants
The status of Jewish community
