CALL FOR PAPERS
Kroeber Anthropological Society Journal
100th Issue: Anthropology, Revisited
As we begin 2011, the practice of anthropology continues to shift alongside the ever-changing worlds around it. The emergence of new technologies, revamped methodologies, and multiple movements in the last decade are just a few of the factors which alter the scope – and focus – of anthropological work.
This issue will focus on the past inventions and future innovations of the discipline in the form of theoretical shifts, reframing categories, not-yet histories, and methodological transformations - a look back to what's been left out and what's yet to emerge.
We welcome papers that reflect on a variety of questions but are not limited to:
*How has the changing nature of anthropology been theorized and practiced this millennium?
*How has anthropology adapted to the worlds around it?
*What challenges, taboos and trends are emerging within or alongside anthropology and its sub-disciplines?
*What new forms and sites of anthropology remain on the fringes? Which are yet to be realized?
*What roles or expectations does anthropology hold for the future?
In celebration of the 100th issue of the Kroeber Anthropological Society Papers, we are accepting submissions to our forthcoming special double issue on the multiple histories and futures of Anthropology.
Timeline for submissions:
December 10, 2010 – Submission of Abstract
December 24, 2010 – Submission of Paper
All submissions should be submitted by 5pm PST
About KAS:
The KAS Journal is the oldest graduate student-run anthropology journal in the country. Since 1950, the UC Berkeley Journal has been publishing scholarly articles in the general field of anthropology (and all its subdisciplines) that are of theoretical, descriptive, or practical interest. In addition to our print journals, we now operate a digital open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal that is available worldwide to researchers and the general public for free.
We welcome submissions by faculty and professionals and remain particularly committed to publishing the work of students and junior scholars. We also encourage proposals for interviews with distinguished scholars and book reviews of recent publications. For more information, contact kas@berkeley.edu.
Check our newest issues and our archives to browse KAS seminars and conferences, articles, and interviews by Alfred Kroeber, Claude Levi-Strauss, Laura Nader, Alan Dundes, Carole Browner, Marshall Sahlins, George Foster, Margaret Lock, Arthur Kleinman, Michael Taussig, Vincent Crapazano, George Marcus, Nancy Scheper-Hughes and Lawrence Cohen.
