CONFERENCE ON LIBYAN WAR
NOVEMBER 2011
The Department of History and Political Science at Luiss-Guido Carli will be organizing a conference on the Libyan War (1911-1912) between Italy and Ottoman Empire for the next year (November 2011). The conference intends to underline the different aspects that characterized the involvement of Italy in Cyrenaica and Tripolitania (today’s Libya) and for these reasons the conference will be divided in three separate: political issues, military issues and diplomatic issues.
The first one will focus on the position taken by the Italian government, the political parties, the Roman Catholic Church and by the exponents of Italian culture on the Libyan war and its repercussions in Italy.
The second will examine the military aspects of the Libyan war, with an analysis of the actions taken by the individual military corps (Army, Navy and Air Force) and the consequent reactions of Ottoman Empire and of the Libyan population.
The third will initiate a discussion on the diplomatic issue of the Libyan War (preparation for war and its conclusion, the Aegean issue) and the memory of the war in Italy, Libya and Turkey.
Presentations in Italian, French, or English are invited. Proposals (ca. 300 words) may be submitted via regular mail or e-mail. The name, address, telephone numbers, e-mail address, university affiliation and level of study of the presenter(s) must also be included.
