This half-day conference will honor the work of the acclaimed scholar of British political discourse, J.G.A. Pocock, who will offer responses to presentations by noted historians such as Jonathan Israel (Princeton Institute for Advanced Study) and Pierre Force (Columbia), as well as Helena Rosenblatt, Richard Wolin and Marty Burke of The Graduate Center, CUNY. J.G.A. Pocock is the Henry C. Black Professor Emeritus of History at Johns Hopkins University, the author of the four-volume Barbarism and Religion (Cambridge University Press) and, most recently, The Discovery of Islands: Essays in British History (Cambridge University Press).
