Paper proposals are currently being solicited for a panel on ‘Gender and Discourses of Domesticity in Latin America’ to be held at the Society for Latin American Studies Annual Conference in St. Andrews, Scotland from April 8-10 2011. The panel seeks to explore the ways in which the home or domestic sphere has interacted with broader religious and political institutional histories, and centers the home as an important ideological domain upon which power has been contested. It seeks to elucidate both the discourses that have been constructed around the domestic sphere, and the ways in which women (and men) have engaged these ideas to advance their political and economic goals. Papers will be considered from any discipline, region and time-period.
Please submit paper titles and abstracts of approx 250 words to Nicola Foote, Associate Professor of Latin American and Caribbean History at Florida Gulf Coast University, via email at nfoote@fgcu.edu by Oct 27th 2010.
