The theme to be discussed during the conference is on ISSUES RELATED TO LIVELIHOOD, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE.
Tropical Island Nations in general, are a veritable repository of diversified biota. However, as natural calamities, climate change and other related issues affect islands severely, making them more vulnerable and wanting in terms of management. Key issues like spatial planning, subsidence, storm risk management, salt water intrusion, fresh-water supply, brackish-water aquaculture, wild fisheries management, governance and innovative policy instruments for making decisions and successful implementation is felt, which in turn calls for worldwide cooperation of Tropical Island Nations. It is with great satisfaction that I welcome the initiative to address such important issues through this International Conference. On the behalf of the Organizing Committee and on my personal behalf; I welcome the Scientific Community and Policy Makers from India and from all the Island Nations; and the pioneering leaders from all over the world to join these endeavours. It is indeed an honour for us to be able to host such an important scientific event in CARI, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, INDIA.
