Southern Spaces (http://www.southernspaces.org/), a peer-reviewed online academic journal, invites proposals for essays, photo essays, original short documentaries, and multimedia projects about the natural and built environments of the U.S. South and their global connections. We encourage submissions that combine innovative scholarship and analysis with ideas for digital media elements such as images, maps, audio, or video.
For this series, Southern Spaces will publish multimedia pieces that engage environmental themes in the interdisciplinary field of environmental studies. Article topics might include environmental justice, environmental racism, agroecology, landscape architecture, eco-literature, ecological historic preservation, sustainability, biodiversity, foodways, activism, eco-feminism, deep ecology, environmental law, ethical consumerism, corporate environmental policy, environmental ethics, spirituality and religion, or public health.
Articles may focus on cultures, particular persons, places, industries, or events, or, they may compare the treatment of ideas or images across several works, genres, or decades. Selections should engage with space and place, either through specific geographical sites or imagined geographies related to the U.S. South.
