The Jesús T. Piñero Collection of the Universidad del Este in Carolina, Puerto Rico invites the university community and the general public to the presentation of the work "El cuerpo de la patria: intelectuales, imaginación geográfica y paisaje de la frontera en la República Dominicana durante la Era de Trujillo" by Dr. Carlos Altagracia of the University of Puerto Rico in Arecibo (UPR-A). The text examines the efforts of Dominican intellectuals under the Trujillo regime to utilize the conflictive Dominican-Haitian border in the construction of a unique Dominican national identity in opposition to the "black threat" perceived in the Haitian presence on both sides of the border. The presentation will take place on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Piñero Reading of the UNE University Library in Carolina.
