The History Graduate Student Organization at Texas A&M University takes pleasure in announcing a call for papers for its second annual Graduate Student Conference, February 26, 2011. The success of the inaugural conference in 2010 established this event as a superb opportunity for emerging scholars to present their research to an audience of peers and subject experts.
We encourage master’s and doctoral candidates as well as advanced undergraduates to submit proposals. This is an interdisciplinary conference and we welcome proposals from fields outside history that approach historical topics from complimentary viewpoints.
Please submit a 250 word (maximum) abstract and curriculum vitae by Wednesday, December 01, 2010. We will group related papers into panels and notify all applicants whether their papers have been selected by December 21. Accepted applicants will have until January 31, 2011 to submit completed papers (not to exceed ten pages) to tamuhistory@gmail.com. A panel of judges will select two papers to receive cash awards in recognition of excellence. Additional conference information is available through tamuhistory@gmail.com.
The 2011 conference will honor the memory of noted military historian and past president of Texas A&M University Frank E. Vandiver. Professor Vandiver, whose distinguished career continues to inspire students of history, presided over the university from 1981 to 1988. He authored and co authored numerous books and other published material on military history, in particular, the American Civil War.
A prominent scholar has been invited to deliver the keynote address. A supplementary announcement will be made when acceptance has been confirmed.
